What Makes a 3D Ultrasound Different From a 4D Ultrasound?ģD ultrasounds take the information from the transducer and create three-dimensional images of your baby. We recognize that every pregnancy is different, and therefore we tailor each treatment and care plan with you in mind. We may perform additional ultrasounds if the baby has a medical condition that needs closer observation. Third trimester ultrasounds at 36 weeks verify the baby’s position. This is also the time when you can discover the baby’s gender. We want to have another one during the second trimester around 18 – 20 weeks to carefully evaluate the baby’s development. These will be during the first trimester or around 8 weeks. In general, we suggest that women have three ultrasounds during their pregnancy. Unlike CT scans or X-rays, ultrasounds do NOT use any radiation. As the sound waves return, they are recorded and compiled into an image by a computer. What About Commercial 3D Ultrasound Centers? You will be responsible for payment for this type of ultrasound at the time of your appointment. Therefore, the cost of these 3D/4D baby ultrasounds are not covered by your insurance. Remember that a 3D/4D ultrasound is an elective one, meaning it is not medically necessary. While you can get an ultrasound at various points in your pregnancy, the best time to get the most ideal 3D images of your baby is typically between 26 and 32 weeks. Staying hydrated is not only important when you are not pregnant, but even more important when you are. You will want to have as much water in your system as you can up to your appointment date for your 3D ultrasound. This will give you the best ultrasound results. It’s recommended to drink around 8 glasses that hold about 8 ounces of water every day. It’s a stark difference – the amniotic fluid is much more clear than those mothers who may not be drinking as much water. Honestly, it probably is, but you can see a vast difference in the quality of the 3D ultrasound images when the mother is drinking plenty of water. With all that pressure on the bladder, you might think drinking more water is a recipe for more trips to the restroom. Want to get the best 3D4D ultrasound images? Around one or two weeks prior to your 3D 4D Ultrasound appointment, it’s best to drink more water than you might normally drink.
